Meet the Management

Katy Billings, Wellness Center Co-Manager

Katy Billings

If your training style had a motto, what would it be and why?
- My training style can best described as “accessible.” I want every person I come across to have an “accessible” form of exercise in their life. For some that’s a group fitness class. For others it’s working out at home. You can go on the Internet and find a million ways to work out, but none of them will work out for you if they aren’t accessible.

What’s one small, daily habit you recommend for mental or physical wellness and how do you practice it yourself?
- The best daily habit for physical and mental health is to find at least 15-20 minutes a day to rest and relax. For me that’s reading in the afternoon followed by a 20-25 minute “kitty cat nap.” In today’s world it seems like an honor to go, go, and go some more. If you don’t take time to rest your body and your brain you will burn out. Of course getting good sleep at night is wonderful for resting and recharging, but if you can find another little snippet in your day to rest and recharge? Even better!

What’s currently in your top 5 workout playlist, and which one always gets you through that last rep?

- My workout playlist runs the gamut, but I would say I get the most pumped up with rap and rock/metal. I always say that if I was an MMA fighter or a boxer my walkout song would be “Dr. Feelgood.” I’m going to cheat and go with a top six right now, so I can choose 3 rap and 3 rock/metal.

1 - Tupac - California Love

2 - Ice Cube - Ghetto Bird

3 - Eazy E - Real Mutha… G’s

4 - Metallica - Sad But True

5 - Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood

6 - Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People

What’s one unexpected way you help create a welcoming space for everyone who walks through the door?
- First of all a friendly smile, lots and lots of encouragement, and letting everyone know that whenever you start exercising whether it’s early or later in life the benefits are so positive for your mind and body!!

What is your favorite group fitness class at The Wellness Center?
- Definitely the 5:00 am Friday morning 1 hour HIT class. There are at least 20 people, and we do everything from weights, cardio, stations, and outdoor activities! Love the energy of the group, and there is always room for more!!

If you could describe the Wellness Center’s vibe in three words, what would they be and why?

- The wellness center provides 3 things in my eyes:

1) It’s therapeutic - reduces stress and pain, mental well being, relaxation and personal growth- everyday you try harder and see results.

2) Self discovery- Exercise helps define where you want to be in life and who you want to be better for. Having a grandchild on the way definitely hits home for me. It motivates you to live a healthy life style. You want to be around for long time to enjoy all their activities and to keep up with them most of all!!
3) Last but not least- mindfulness of your surroundings. Coming into the Wellness, we are just so glad everyone is here and has the same goal. There is no judgement and after you exercise you are just HAPPIER mentally. There has never been a person walk out of the Wellness Center sad!! Happy vibes all around! You might be tired but in a good way!!
